About Trinity County, California Real Estate The Last American Wilderness?

Welcome to Trinity County, California!
Trinity County, California is a large, rugged and mountainous, heavily-forested county located in the northwestern portion of the state, right along the Trinity River and within the Salmon/Klamath Mountains. As of 2000 the county's population was 13,022. Trinity County's seat and largest town is Weaverville, at around 3500 people. The county takes its name from the Trinity River, named in 1845 by Major Pearson B. Reading, who was under the mistaken impression that the river emptied into Trinidad Bay (Trinity is the English tranlsation of the Spanish,Trinidad.)
Trinity County was one of the original counties of California, created in 1850 at the time of statehood. Parts of the county were given to Klamath County in 1852 and to Humboldt County in 1853. Klamath County ceased to exist in 1874 after it was dissolved due to corruption and wide spread electoral fraud.
Today, there are still no incorporated cities in Trinity County - and not a single traffic light! Despite that fact, Trinity County, Caifornia is well over half the size of Connecticut, a little over 1/3 of New jersey and a little under 1/3 of Massachusetts.
Nevertheless, Trinity County has so much to offer its residents and their guests. The county is home to a number of small communities in addition to some of the region's most awesome scenery. The Trinity River is a designated "Wild and Scenic" river and provides endless opportunities for rafting, canoeing, kayaking, and sports fishing. Expansive Trinity Lake, with 16,000 surface acres and 147 miles of shoreline, is popular with house-boaters and water skiers. In contrast, Ruth Lake is quiet and off-the-beaten-track, attracting campers and anglers looking for a peaceful, pristine location.
Scenic Weaverville also allows visitors a glimpse of yesteryear in this small town that was home to miners as well as a large number of Chinese immigrants. A popular day trip for Upstate California residents, the well-preserved downtown area, the Joss House State Park - home to the oldest still-in-use Chinese Temple in California, and the Sam Lee Folk Art Center all offer a unique and rewarding experience.
Trinity County is also home to Shasta-Trinity National Forest and portions of Mendocino and Six Rivers National Forests. At the former, avid fishermen can enjoy world-class trout fishing in Lake Lewiston. Professional and amateur photographers, alike, can view picturesque forests and lakes by driving along the Trinity Heritage National Scenic Byway, a 120-mile stretch of road that climbs nearly 4,500 feet and gives guests a look at the route traveled by Gold Rush miners and settlers in the mid-1800s.
